Door County

Ben and I were in Door County, Wisconsin last week for a 2nd honeymoon:) Papa Eddie, Nana Sue, Cousin Louise, and GG Mary and GG Mel a BIG THANKS for helping care for our girls. They are busy bees and require a lot of love and attention, so the task was big, as is our appreciation for you all!

Why Door County? Good question. Our five year anniversary was in June and Ellsy had just turned one, so we didn't feel like we could leave her for more than a few days. We also hadn't had a vacation in a long stretch and with a season of lengthy work hours and caring for two munchkins, we were due for a little Ben and Jenna time. My husband has an inkling to farm and I love fall. So this was my opportunity to take a fall trip. We looked up places that were fall hotspots and within a reasonable distance from home and Door County popped up. It is the peninsula between Green Bay & Lake Michigan, also known as the "Cape Cod of the Midwest." We were early for the peak fall colors, but the leaves were starting to change and it definitely had a fall feel.

On Day 1: We took a scenic trolley ride around Door County to scope out the things we wanted to do on our trip.

For lunch, we ate at Wilson's, an iconic ice cream parlor. Ben's first fish meal of many on this trip.
He took full advantage.

In the afternoon, we took a ferry ride to Washington Island and rode bikes.

I love his love for life. Like a lot.

On our bike adventures, we went by some lavender farms. My mom is an avid lavender lady so it smelled like my mom. Needless, to say I like this smell!

On Day 2: We went to Whitefish Dunes State Park. This was perhaps my favorite location. IT IS BEAUTIFUL, as seen in the pictures below. Above, is a picture for my brother Tanner.
For him, I will call it "lepidoptera."

God the Creator. Amazing.

We hiked and then headed for a recommended pizza place in Sturgeon Bay.

Ben really really wanted to golf. I didn't, but I was ok taking pictures with my camera and watching him enjoy himself. Above, is a picture for my brother Troy, the hunter. These are golf course turkeys.

It was a beautiful day for golf!

Day 3: We went to Bluff County Park and hiked.

Afterwards, we went to Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant, perhaps the most famous restaurant in all of Door County. For a couple of reasons, (one) the goats on top of the roof and (two) its authentic Swedish cuisine. I had Swedish meatballs and Ben had Swedish pancakes. Ask him about the pancakes, he is still raving about them. I didn't take pictures of our main meals, but did of our appetizer…Wisconsin cheese curds. They were delish.

In the afternoon, we did some shopping, went to a winery, and then headed to Sunset Park before a scheduled fish boil.

The fish boil.

Ben enjoying his fish. I enjoying the cherry pie (NO FISH)!

We returned to Sunset Park after the fish boil and witnessed this beauty of a sunset.

Sometimes in the busyness and chaos of raising a family, you forget your love story, which I was often reminded of on this trip. He is my best friend, I just enjoy being with him. He makes life better. We make a great team, better together than apart. I am just thankful.

Day 4: We went to Peninsula State Park where we hiked. We ate some delicious food at the Chef's Hat for supper, played mini-golf (I won fyi):), and then went for some ice cream at Door County Ice Cream Factory.

A great trip!
