My mom thinks this is blog worthy…Some might find it humorous, but I'm glad this saga is over (at least we are hoping it is over). For the past month, we have woken up to poop on our back porch. In the same place every morning, a large pile of poop. So Ben, decided to put a mouse trap in the spot where the pooping kept reoccurring. The next morning, no rodent, just a pile of poop on the mouse trap. Touché little creature. So then Ben got a live trap and put a can of tuna in it. The next morning a pile of poop next to the trap. And the next morning the same and so on. Now Ben is considering staying up all night and talking about all sorts of crazy things like slingshots and bb guns. We are thinking it is a cat since they run rampant in Morrill. Then, nothing. No poop for two days… at least thats what we thought. Then I go to the front porch to do some painting. And wouldn't you know there are a couple of piles of poop. At this point, I feel like we are dealing with a highly intelligent creature who has it out for us. Ben put up my brother's trail cam and put more tuna in the trap in hopes we could at least find out what it was and when it was coming. And at last, sweet victory!! I am happy to report that at 4:00 am this morning, this vermin took the bait, but unfortunately not before it emptied its bowels…again on our door step (which was all wonderfully captured on the trail cam). See below. We heard the trap go off. In typical fashion, Ben went back to sleep. I couldn't sleep as it tried to claw its way out out of the cage.
If you know my brother Troy, you know this is equal to a Christmas present. Sidenote: He also shot a turkey today. So I'm sure it did feel like Christmas for him. Ben grabbed his gun and they left. I didn't ask questions. Clara who thought he was "Sooooo cute" and that we needed to feed him breakfast was starting to make me feel sorry for the little guy. However, after scrubbing the porch with boiling water (Because my other brother informed me about a parasite in raccoon poop that can be fatal), I didn't feel so sympathetic. We are hoping this is the end of the saga. However, we have also learned that raccoons who are mostly solitary rodents, like to make latrines which basically means they have community pooping spots. Yep, disgusting.
Oh my goodness. You have a nice way of documenting the story. Hilarious!
