Last Friday, Clara started coughing. Ok...I thought, she must be on the verge of her first cold. Saturday, she began to seem disinterested in eating. Sunday, she just wanted to sleep. Monday morning, she couldn't breathe. I mean literally couldn't breathe. I called Ben to help me get ready for a dr's appointment. They were going to try and fit her in. He came home from work and said we needed to go to the ER. If he thought that, then I knew it wasn't just me over reacting. I really didn't know what was going to happen. I know I've never felt more scared than I did that morning. The fear of losing your baby is indescribable. I held her in my lap on the way to the ER and she couldn't even keep her eyes open. The doctor diagnosed her with RSV. RSV scares the tar out of me... knowing babies can die from the virus and especially knowing a baby who did. Since it is a virus, there is no medication for it. They did put her an albuterol inhaler to try and open up her breathing passage ways. Needless to say I was a mess. Ben stayed home from work on Monday. I'm thankful for my husband who always is so positive and just a rock when I'm not. I think he told me she was going to be OK fifty times on Monday & Tuesday which is exactly how many times I needed to hear it. I think her symptoms peaked on Tuesday. Today actually was the first day she has shown signs of getting her appetite back. Symptoms can linger for up to six weeks.
Here are some pictures from Wednesday when she started looking somewhat better. She still looked miserable, but not to the extent she did the previous two days.
I still haven't decided if we are going to put ourselves in a bubble until spring...
On the tail end of one of many sneezes this week.
Oh sad! I hope she gets better really fast. I know exactly what you were feeling. Not something I ever want to re-live.
